The Eurovision Song Contest 2000 is now history.
Congratulations to Denmark.
Although it was not my favorite song, I can understand why it won. The director
did a marvelous job and the crowd was exceedingly warm. The recipe was IRE94 and
it worked!
I am glad Russia and
Latvia got so many points - they definitely deserved them.
ESC2000 could easily be qualified as the
"Baltic" invasion (RUS-LAT-EST came 2nd,3rd and 4th).
What I didn't like was the Nordic votes flooding the
scoreboard. I had the impression that the whole thing was a set-up. I knew how
each country would vote before the results were announced.
Let's move on to the Cyprus
issue, now. The score was once again a big shock for me. I think Cyprus should
never enter the Contest again if televoting remains. I cannot see how a song
from Cyprus or Greece can score better in the future. Alex and his team were
excellent on stage! The orchestration was far better and the "voices"
were beautiful. I feel really sad and all I can say is "Congratulations
Alex, Christina, Michael, George, Christina and Lina! You were more than
great!"
Click here if you want to know what Chris Zavos,
Ilias Kavalieris and I thought about the songs before the actual contest. I
guess you all know Chris and Ilias thanks to their comments on the 1998 Greek
preselection, published on HellasVision.
