Here you can find my comments on ESC 2000. I have also added comments from Chris Zavos and Ilias Kavalieris.

1.ISRAEL

S: After watching the video I realized that this gang is nothing more than fun. They don't take themselves seriously and I  begin to like the whole idea. The cucumbers is a must hehe. MY GRADE: 6/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

C.Z.:Modern rhythm, many special sound effects but lacks the melody. The voices of the members of the group have nothing interesting and I found the "Aahs" in the refrain very Israeli-like. The verses are much alike the melody; I found the refrain particularly annoying. However, since I haven't watched the performance of the song, I cannot say with safety that this song will not do well. This is not one of my favorites. 4/10

I.K: What a different song! And what an awful start for ESC2000. I just hope the viewers will have the patience to listen to a noise that lasts about three minutes, and not change TV channel. A melody-less mess: the disaster itself.
2/10

2. THE NETHERLANDS

This is my THA NE EROTAS of 2000. I really love that one and I hope my sweet Linda will wear the parachute dress as in the dutch preselection hehe. MY GRADE: 9/10 PREDICTION: 1-5

This is the kind of song one would admit "Hey, I've heard it before!". The girl's voice is nice and it reminds me of Carola, the beat is fine, but somehow I feel that the song was written especially for the contest, taking into consideration all the previous Euro-hits. The use of the English language underlines my view for the song. Lack of originality. 3/10

So, considering Israel as a small noisy intro, the actual contest begins with the Netherlands. A nice song and a great performance. But, we should not forget the "Curse of No. 2" and the fact that the British and Estonian song that follow are of the same "happy-catchy" school. 7/10

3. UNITED KINGDOM

I like STEPoid songs so I like this one a lot. Nikki seems to be professional so what can go wrong?

MY GRADE: 8/10 PREDICTION: 1-5

After last year's Swedish victory with an ABBA-esque song I was afraid that in 2000 many countries would adopt the famous group's immortal melodies. The UK song is one such example. If the televoters are still the ABBA fans (like last year), we will have a UK victory, that's for sure. 2/10

A more "conservative" effort that the previous. Yes, it has "old-fashioned" written all over it. This is something, of course, that didn't prevent Charlotte from winning, last year. In the "happy-catchy" camp that many countries have enrolled this time, "Don't Play That Song Again" has many chances of getting very high in the scoreboard. If only it was not between the Netherlands and Estonia. 7/10

4. ESTONIA

I finally liked the song a bit more watching the clip. Still  not one of my favourites, but the girl is very good looking  and sweet. MY GRADE: 5/10 PREDICTION: 1-5

The girl's voice is beautiful but the song needs better arrangement especially in its end. The English language matches very well with the musical style of the song. On the other hand, the tune has nothing innovative and it's very predictable. 6/10

Nice song, pure Scandinavian pop, a bit more up-to-date that the previous. The final result is up to the performance. If it's so storming that will make UK and Net to be forgotten in a minute, it will do great. If not, then be prepared for the "Tha'nai erotas" of ESC2000.  8/10

5. FRANCE

No thanks. I find it annoying, boring and worse than Nayah. MY GRADE: 2/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

Very repetitive, but the rhythm is modern and the tune can be easily remembered in the end. With the proper performance the song could do very well. 7/10

A very good voice and a confident performance of one of the most up-to-date songs of the contest. Just like Ou Aller, or even better. I would like to see it finishing somewhere in the TOP5, but the luck of Ou Aller doesn't allow much optimism. 7/10

6. ROMANIA

The worst Romanian entry ever I m afraid. There were many songs in the Romanian preselection I liked but this is not one of them. It sounds worse in English :((( MY GRADE: 4/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

A very beautiful arrangement combining the Pan-flute with the electric-guitar. The refrain of the song is not that promising, however. Still, the song's traditional elements give a great advantage to the song. 6/10

A very "weird" entry, will attract the "weird" votes. Being "too much quality for eurovision", a BOTTOM5 placing won't be a surprize. Personally, I think it's good to have entries of every possible style in Eurovision (not just 20 clones of "Take me to your heaven") as they add to the variety of sounds and rythms of the contest. 5/10

7. MALTA

Yeah right Malta is in the Caribbean. What kind of music is this? Reggae? Disco? Latin? It sounds like Sweden 87  and the year is 2000. MY GRADE: 3/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

The song reminds me strongly of another famous song, but I cannot remember the title. This is not one of my favorites. 4/10

Every time I listen to it, I rate it lower and lower. The lowest point of quality in ESC2000; a terrible old-fashioned reggae-like song. If it is an attempt to take advantage of the latin-mania (Ricky Martin, Enrique Inglesias etc) then it's the worst attempt ever. It will propably take a place between 10 and 20. 2/10

8. NORWAY

The typical Scandinavian song with the same dance routine...Same old story. MY GRADE: 3/10 PREDICTION: 1-5

Now here's a song I keep on listening to all the time. Catchy tune, the word "boom" makes me crazy and if the stage performance is also fine, this is one of the songs I would like to see being performed for a second time at the end of the show. 9/10

After the three minutes explosion of ridicule, follow the three minutes explosion of joy, optimism, in an up-tempo, typical scandinavian song. Norway is here to spoil the chances of the Netherlands, UK and Estonia. Theperformance is the key, here, as in almost every song of the "happy-catchy" camp.  8/10

9. RUSSIA

Well she is not that gorgeous after all. OK a decent pop song like a cheap copy of a B.Spears or a T.Braxton song. It doesn't sound like Russia at all and that is another thing I don't like. MY GRADE: 5/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

I have seen the preview and I was impressed by the performer's physical appearance. Also, I could never expect Russia to adopt the English language. Times are changing. The song is not as exciting as Alsou, though. With an uglier performer it would be destined to bottom 10. 5/10 for the song, 10/10 for Alsou.

At last, a really up-to-date song! And a very good one, I should mention. In the spirit of Britney Spears, it became instantly one of my favorites, and I believe that given the appropriate Britney-ish performance on stage it has the potential to lead Russia to the victory. 10/10

10. BELGIUM

This is definetely not DIS OUI. I like to hear it sometimes but not to watch it as well. MY GRADE: 4/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

There is very few to say about the song. Nathalie's voice is great, but the song may pass unnoticed being performed after Norway. There needs to be a special trick in order to attract the televoters' attention. 7/10

It is not a bad entry but I feel it misses that "something", that is needed to have a good fate in ESC2000. It sounds a bit plain and the high notes scare me a bit. 4/10

11. CYPRUS

I won't be objective with this one. I really love Sti fotia and Nomiza from the first time I heard it. It is such a strong song  combining two beautiful voices. I know they will do their best on stage and we are gonna see a hell of a show. GO ALEX ,GO CHRISTINA! MY GRADE: 10/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

The song's advantages are: a) Alex Panayi's previous ESC appearance, b) the order of performance after Belgium. Are they enough? I don't suppose so. The tune can not be easily remembered and the voices of the duet do not match together. I believe the song would be placed somewhere in the second half of the final ranking. 5/10

This is not "Sti Fotia", not even "Fterougisma" (cypriot preselection of 1998). It was actually a bit disappointment for me, as I hoped Alex Panayi would do something better than this. It is different, though, and will propably gather more points than "Tha'ne Erotas" but I cannot see how it could finish so high as some charts indicate. 7/10

12. ICELAND

I like it more and more, it is growing on me. The english help that song a lot. MY GRADE: 5/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

A disco song in the new millennium? I expected better from last year's runner-up. 4/10

Old-fashioned and completely predictable. It's a bit boring and easily forgettable. 4/10

13. SPAIN

This is much better than the 1992 entry. Serafin could get sympathy votes. I hope it scores well  7/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

1992: Serafin behind a piano, 2000: Serafin behind a piano, 2008: Serafin behind a piano etc. Seen one, seen 'em all! 5/10

14. DENMARK

It would be great in English. I think we will remember those fellows. Pretty decent song.  7/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

The song had better be sung in English. In any case, it's very dynamic and it should do well. 7/10

It has a very promising beginning, but after 10 seconds it lets you down. Bland, plain, hookless and just before Raab's crazy performance, it is condemned to a BOTTOM5 place.  3/10

15. GERMANY

One thing is sure. We are all waiting to see the presentation of the song. It's better than 1998 and 1999 entries so it should do well. Scatman lyrics and 70s funky music work for me.  8/10 PREDICTION: 1-5

A German friend of mine said 'I don't like it because it makes no sense'. Perhaps then it's ideal for Eurovision, a contest addressed to a multi-lingual audience. The recipe is tested by Guildo and it worked! The arrangement is spectacular and so is the stage performance. A possible top 5. Personal vote: 7/10

One of my favorites and the first real candidate for the trophy in Stockholm. I loved their performance in the German final as they gave a real show. The keyword here is "show". That's why Raab just walked the German final and that's why he is such a strong candidate for the victory in Sweden. The song itself has already entered the world of Eurovision "strange title" classics like Dinge A Dong, Diggi Loo, Diggi Lei, etc.  9/10

16. SWITZERLAND

It is worse than Canzone per te and it is 10 years later!! No luck with televoting I think.  4/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

A Eurovision ballad by numbers. It's at least a 30 years old song. It may awaken some memories to the older Euro-fans and the older televoters. It will probably be between the 10th and 20th place on the scoreboard.  6/10

17. CROATIA

This one is sweet but poor I am afraid. I don't see why it would score better than Slovenia 98.  5/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

It is Croatia's worst entry ever. Boring and slow to death, and so forgettable, you think you've got Alzheimer. If I were Croatian I would be happy if it could gather 12 points (all from FYROM).  3/10

18. SWEDEN

This is a bit of surprise for me. It's really strong and not what I expected the Swedish would choose. The ethnic sound can gather votes from everywhere (even the southern countries). Besides Pontare is a God hehe.  8/10 PREDICTION: 1-5

Not very far from Germany but closer to the end and with a crowd of 15000 people singing it like crazy, comes the second real hot favorite for the victory and my hot favorite. Roger's show is as good as Stefan's but his song is better. Anthemic and original, impressive and greatly performed, this time Sweden actually deserves the victory. I will keep my fingers crossed for this one on May 13th.  10/10

19. FYROM

I liked the 98 entry but this is trash I 'm sorry. The political issue between Greece and FYROMacedonia has nothing to do with my opinion. I simply hate the song. It is worse than ENI.  2/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

The tune could be easily a part of a commercial jingle. The orchestration is based mainly on synthesizers. The voices are ridiculous. Very silly song 1/10

thus I see them in the TOP10, given that they sing in English.  4/10

20. FINLAND

No one will remember that song. I am sleeping already. Anna Eriksson would do so much better. 3/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

When I heard that Petri Laaksonen lost at Euroviisut, I felt sorry for Finland, because a good chance was lost. Nina's song is not that bad, after all. And it's in English. The violin adds a lot to the song, but the lyrics are awful. 5/10

While Oot Voimani Mun was a sure TOP5-er, this is an almost certain BOTTOM5-er. It really goes nowhere and it seems that it will never end.  3/10

21. LATVIA

I love this song. I hope all the young people will vote for that. Modern and classic together, a really smashing debut for Latvia. Reminds me of indy songs and A-HA.  9/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

Judging from the 1-minute real audio this is really a very promising song. Cool and with interesting vocals, it can attract a part of the younger televoters and it has some possibilities of ending high on the scoreboard.  6/10

22. TURKEY

It grows on me but still is a medium song. Sounds interesting in English.  5/10 PREDICTION: 16-24

Very beautiful song, nice guitar arrangement and great English version. The singer's physical appearance is not very promising. Does she have the time to lose a few kilos? 6/10

Typical old-fashioned latin-wannabie song of the eastern Mediterranean region.  4/10

23. IRELAND

PREDICTION: 6-15

Oh please. We have a IRE 90, IRE94 and UK97 mixture sung be an ugly Irish. And those lyrics... Boooring. Not to mention that juries would have give him the victory with 200points.   2/10

A typical Irish Euro-ballad (remember Liam Reilly?). Some years ago this song would be No. 1. Has tele-voting changed the contest that much? We'll soon find out. 7/10

It's a ballad. It's anthemic. It's Irish. It's well performed. It's towards the end. It's such a DANGER! I know many of us are prejudiced against Ireland (a fact that the charts do not hide) but I have to admit that I like the song and I consider it as the outsider for trophy in Sweden.  7/10

24. AUSTRIA

The Weather girls meet the Supremes? I think it can be the outsider for the victory. A nice end I guess  6/10 PREDICTION: 6-15

"THE ROUNDER GIRLS GO EUROVISION?" I don't believe it. I saw the documentary film at the cinema a few days ago and it was quite impressing. Three talented young girls who want to conquer the European charts. One of my favorites. 10/10

Quite good song, but with nothing special on it. It has the advantage of being performed last and will probably just miss the TOP10.  7/10.
